Tips for Traveling During COVID-19

Tips for Traveling During COVID-19

Traveling this year looks different in every sense of the word. The good news is that many parts of the world have begun to resume travel to some extent, including within the USA. Many of our domestic airlines have put in additional safety measures, higher cleaning standards, capacity limitations, and mandatory mask regulations to help keep travelers safe.

However, not everyone may be ready to hop on a flight just yet, and that’s okay! Take a look at my fall road trip guide if you are ready to get out of the house without getting on a plane this fall.

If you are ready to take a flight or need to by necessity, there are some CDC recommended guidelines as well as travel tips that can help make the trip safer for you and your fellow passengers.* Many of these are travel tips you may have heard in the past months or even used in the past – but it is always good to have a reminder! Or, feel free to use this as a checklist as you prepare to travel in the coming months.

  1. Wear a mask. First and foremost, to protect yourselves and others, please do not travel without wearing a mask.
  2. Bring your own sanitizer and wipes. While many airports and airlines are offering these to customers, it is always best to err on the side of comfort and caution and bring your own.
  3. A good rule of thumb traveling in these times or in the past, wipe down your seat when you sit down on the plane. While airlines are practicing extra cleaning measures, it is always good for your own peace of mind!
  4. Wash your hands frequently in addition to using hand sanitizer. (Another good rule of thumb for traveling anytime!)
  5. Do not eat or drink at the airport or on the plane. Some airlines are still handing out complimentary water and snacks, but your safest bet is to leave your mask on and your hands away from your face.
  6. Keep the CDC recommended six feet away from others and try to find a spot in the terminal away from groups to wait for your plane to board.
  7. Of course, please be patient with the airline and airport staff as they work through new protocols. We are all in this together!

If you are not ready to travel by plane quite yet, that is completely understandable! I would be happy to help you start planning some 2021 trips to get excited about future travel. If you are ready to book a staycation or trip via air or car, I would be thrilled to help set you up in a destination that makes you feel comfortable and safe every step of the way.

Stay safe and happy travels!

*Please note the CDC offers more safe travel tips here and does acknowledge that the safest place to be is to stay home and away from others.
