Travel Resources

Sure, romantic comedies portray couples embarking on an international trip on a moment’s notice, but that only works in the movies. You’ll want to take the time to review plan ahead, and then review information about your destination and itinerary to make sure you stay on schedule.  My favorite traveler’s checklist is provided by the US Department of State.

Passport & Visa Info

You’ll need a passport for international travel.  Be sure to allow several months before departing to get  your application in order and receive your passport. You can apply at your local post office. To learn more about applying for (or renewing) your passport, click here

Packing Tips

The first tip for packing, is to make a checklist. This will not only keep you from forgetting an item, it will help you organize your items into carryon vs checked baggage. Your list will vary slightly based on your destination. A quick internet search of “international travel packing lists” will give you plenty of checklists to choose from.

Health Information

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website hosts resources for travelers and their health. You’ll get the latest updates on viruses and vaccinations. There’s even a Health Travel Packing List, based on type of traveler and your destination.

Travel Safety

In today’s world, safety should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. The more you know about the country you plan to visit, the more prepared you can be for an emergency, be it a manmade or natural disaster. You’ll find a lot of great information on the US Department of State’s website.

Traveling with Children

Traveling with children doesn’t have to be hard! The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) publishes tips for safety in the plan. Learn about the importance of using a child restraint system. These systems are safer than having your child sit on your lap. Learn more about using a child restraint system on the FAA website.

In Case of Emergency

Your best way to deal with emergencies overseas is with preparation. Know the location and phone number of the nearest US embassy or consulate. Should you need emergency assistance, you’ll already have the contact info handy!
