Picturesque shores, lobster rolls, and oysters on the half shell were the themes of my recent trip to explore New England. While this destination has been one I have visited in the past, every trip to the Northeastern region of our country reveals a new treasure to explore.
We started near Ogunquit, Maine, and stayed at one of my favorite properties, the Cliff House Maine. This lovely resort is built on coastal bluffs with expansive views of the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Cliff House blends modern floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the views, paired with tasteful nautical and vintage New England styles for a true coastal escape. I love sending both families and couples to Cliff House alike, as it can be a romantic getaway for two or an activity-packed destination for the family.
Nearby the towns of Ogunquit, Perkins Cove, and Kennebunkport offer quaint restaurants, shopping, and New England Style neighborhoods to explore. From takeout at the Clam Shack (quite literally an adorable shack selling clams!) to sampling a wide variety of oysters and delicious lobster rolls, we got our fair share of the locally harvested seafood. Once we had our fill, we headed out to sea and spent the afternoon on a sailboat for a perfect afternoon off the picturesque coast.
After a few days exploring this part of Maine, we traveled to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where we enjoyed a wonderful stay at the iconic Chatham Bars Inn. This exquisite property embodies the coastal charm of Cape Cod with traditional New England architecture, proximity to the historic town of Chatham, and their own farm just a short drive from the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks on the beach, relaxing by the pool and popping in and out of cute shops in town, as evidenced by our “Cape Cod” sweatshirts, making our trip quintessentially New England through and through.
