Born before 1991? You are older than Croatia! Croatia has only been an independent country since 1991. From the Walls of Dubrovnik to the breathtaking shores of the Adriatic Sea, Croatia has quickly become a fixture on the world’s bucket list!

The first hotel I recommend you stay at is Vestibul Palace, in Split. Located in the heart of the Diocletian palace, you’ll find it to be a combination of contemporary comforts and old-world charm.

However, if you love King’s Landing in Game of Thrones, you’ll be enthralled by the real-life Walls of Dubrovnik! Dubrovnik’s old town is simply stunning; a must-see and explore city, dubbed “The Pearl of the Adriactic” by romantic era poet, Lord Byron.

My favorite property in this area is Villa Dubrovnik. Each of the 55 guestrooms features smart contemporary styling with plenty of natural light. Watching the sun set over the water from your guestroom terrace is just breathtaking.

For the finest meal in Dubrovnik, visit Nautika restaurant, located on the very edge of the Adriatic Sea at Pile. Nautika’s unique terraces offer a one of a kind view of the Adriatic and the fortresses of Lovrijenac and Bokar.  Combining tradition, quality, and creativity, Nautika serves up a sophisticated and innovative style of Mediterranean cuisine.

While in Dubrovnik, there are so many wonderful experiences to choose. You can take a boat trip to Lokrum Island. Be prepared to walk, as cars are not allowed on Lokram; but don’t worry, there are plenty of walking trails. If you walk to the center of the island, you can explore the ruins of a 12th/13th-century basilica and 15th-century monastery. Wild peacocks stroll about the island, and many of them may approach people for food.

More active experiences available include horseback riding, mountain biking in Konavle, or a sea kayaking journey to explore coastal sights.  A less strenuous option is a day trip to the Vineyards of Pejesac Peninsula to sample local wines.

While in Croatia, you’ll want to spend time on the Istrian Peninsula.  For this region, I recommend Hotel   Monte Mulini. The first thing you’ll notice on arrival are the panoramic views of the gorgeous blue sea. And don’t worry, because each of the 113 rooms and suites all combine luxurious comfort with breathtaking views!

The Istrian Peninsula boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!  Relax and sunbathe, or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters.  A sight not to miss while on the peninsula is Plitvice Lakes National Park. The lake system is comprised of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next, ending in waterfalls that feed into the Korana River.

All of that nature exploring is sure to work up an appetite. You won’t want to miss dining at Zigante Truffle. Combining flavors and scents of both sea and forest, traditional and contemporary, Chef Damir Modrušan will dazzle you with the beauty and skills that create an exquisite culinary experience!

Once you’ve experienced a taste of Croatia, you’ll be anxious to return!
